This course is divided equally into Meteorology and Oceanography. Topics in meteorology include the atmospheric environment - composition, vertical structure, radiative transfer, solar energy budget, enhanced greenhouse effect - simple global models, predictions for the future, atmospheric thermodynamics and humidity, thermodynamic diagrams, lapse rate and stability, surface boundary layer, turbulence balance equations, turbulent transport equations, vertical wind profile, logarithmic wind profile, friction velocity and roughness length, computation of vertical fluxes in the surface boundary layer. Topics in Oceanography include: properties of seawater, stability, diffusion, waves
