This subject provides the student with the opportunity to develop a project (based on the application of contemporary knowledge about alternative dispute resolution, for example, negotiation skills) which can be used to resolve disputes that occur in the health care system and which may impact upon nursing practice and clinical outcomes for patients. The student will learn current theory and practice in Alternative Dispute Resolution in an Australian health care context. The student's learning is extended and applied to addressing disputes in the health care environment which impact on nursing work and the ability to provide quality patient/client care. The topic is negotiated with the subject coordinator.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate the ability to develop a project that addresses an identified dispute in the nursing practice/clinical environment where alternative dispute resolution processes may be used to resolve the dispute;
- design a clinically focused project related to alternative dispute resolution in the health care environment using evidence-based research skills;
- further develop critical thinking, reflective and analytical skills.
