This subject focuses upon the impact of tropical environments on health eg heat related disorders; provision of health services/health policy in relation to geography (finance, service provision, population density, rural and remote issues); tropical trauma envenomation: land and marine; barotrauma; retrieval of victims of industrial and other trauma from remote areas; tropical diseases arboviruses; malaria; melioidosis; mycobacterium; skin cancers; kidney disease.
Learning Outcomes
- describe the impact of climate and rural/remote location on the health of northern Australians;
- discuss health problems (and their management) that are prevalent in northern Australia;
- provide students with foundation knowledge regarding health service delivery across the north of Australia.
