Available to BMus students and BEd students who have passed the music rudiments test.

Students will begin an ongoing exploration of tonal music theory and composition, techniques of early to mid 20th century composition and analysis and orchestration and arrangement techniques for string instruments. Students are required to develop skills in the field of music technology and undertake a course of study in computer-assisted composition and notation.

Learning Outcomes

• gain a knowledge of western string instruments and the manner in which music is composed and arranged for strings;
• gain a practical knowledge of the primary hardware and software systems used in music technology;
• gain an understanding of early to mid 20th century composition techniques and analysis;
• gain an understanding of techniques used in tonal music composition and analysis.
