[To be introduced in Cairns in 2007]

Organisational theory and design (OT&D) has recently been introduced to the human resources and operations management majors of the program. It is an examination of the most recent thinking about macro-organisational management of people in different structures, the corresponding behavioural implications and the resulting levels of effectiveness in both the public and private sector. OT&D is therefore the sociology of organisations presenting the human friendly designs needed for implementation, administration and execution of management strategy, the capstone subject of the business program. The subject also illustrates organisational design as a real world activity. It involves formative and summative case studies as well as joint field work in conjunction with strategic management, its companion subject. The objective is to expose students to strategy-structure-technology linkage issues involved in effective design. This synergistic approach enhances the level of understanding of knowledge, analytical skills and competencies. It facilitates discovery, creation and recommendation of more effective management approaches.
