Available ONLY to students enrolled in GDipResMeth, GCertResMeth and MAppSc. Except with the approval of the Head of School/Associate Dean, all subjects in a chain must be studied in consecutive teaching periods.

Candidates aspiring to the MSc by Research who are enrolled in the GDipResMeth, GCertResMeth or MAppSc may spend approximately eight weeks collecting data as a small discrete project that is generally related to or will be encompassed within the MSc project. The topic will be selected after consultation with appropriate supervisor(s) and the course coordinator. Candidates will be required to write up the results of their research in the form of a scientific paper. In addition, candidates will write a formal research proposal for the MSc thesis project in the form of a standard application for research funding. Students will also present a seminar outlining research plans for their MSc research.
