The subject examines issues and problems in Australian history from 1788 to the present, such as the war for the land, the search for an Australian identity, economic development, foreign relations, major political developments, race relations, reform movements, and the impact of world disasters.

Learning Outcomes

• an understanding of historical issues and problems which have affected the development of Australian society;
• an understanding of the role played by historians in shaping our perceptions of Australia's pastpast;
• skills in the reading and interpretation of historical evidence.
