This subject serves as an introduction to the world of pixel based imaging. It deals extensively with the imaged based program photoshop. The concepts of resolution dependence and bit depth will be discussed. Capturing, importing and exporting images, using layers, retouching, working with type, greyscale imaging, different colour models and referencing image usage for print, multimedia and web-based applications
Learning Outcomes
- be able to examine image composition and industry based techniques for image manipulation;
- be capable of inputing images from a number of devices;
- gain an appreciation of the importance of image resolution and its relevance to final image usage and output;
- have an understanding of the integral differences between bitmap and vector images;
- have attained a basic understanding of the Adobe Photoshop working environment.

Special Assessment Requirements: | In order to establish the authenticity of work submitted for assessment, attendance at practical classes is compulsory. Rolls are kept and work submitted by students with an attendance of less than 80% will not be eligible for assessment unless prior approval has been obtained in writing from the lecturer. |
