Available to students enrolled in the JCU Foundation Program.
This course assists students to develop the tools and strategies they will need in order to successfully identify and interpret the numerous legal situations and issues that arise in their everyday lives. It will also give them a brief overview of their legal rights and obligations in certain situations that they will encounter.
Learning Outcomes
- recognise common social situations which have legal implications for their daily lives;
- explain their legal rights and responsibilities;
- apply a knowledge of the law with respect to the interrelationships among individuals, society and the rule of law in Queensland, Australia and the rest of the world;
- understand the processes, operations and structure of our legal system so that that they may be more informed and responsible members of the community in which they live;
- use strategies and tactics that enable them to use rational and objective methods as well as qualitative and subjective judgments when examining social and legal issues.
