Available to all honours students and new postgraduate students in TESAG programs.
Aimed at students about to attempt their first research program. The subject introduces fundamental ideas required to understand how scientific progress is made and to recognise good science.
Learning Outcomes
- have a broad understanding of the variety of approaches to the acquisition of knowledge through research;
- be aware of the diversity of research methodology in contemporary environmental studies and geography and understand the limitations of each approach;
- be able to derive meaningful research questions that are underpinned by a strong theoretical framework of a given disciplinary area;
- Be able to decide on an appropriate research methodology for their chosen topic of study;
- Be able to understand the inter-relationship that exists between research and management. Appreciate ethical issues in research and management. Gain proficiency in communicating their research to a range of audiences.
