This subject examines selected medieval, Victorian and modern texts in their historical contexts, with a view to appreciating the literary and cultural significance of Arthurian tradition. The subject surveys the development of Arthurian chronicles, poetry and prose writings from their beginnings to the present day, with major turning points being illustrated by textual study. Middle English romances of Arthur and the Round Table knights are read in the original language.
