Topics include: A review of fluid related tensor elements. Important fluid theorems and formulations, incompressible flow, conservative and non-conservative forms, and the stress tensor. Energy conservation equation, fluid kinematics, rotational and irrotational flow and the stress-rate of strain relationship for Newtonian fluids. The Navier-Stokes equations, boundary conditions, Bernoulliys equation, complex potential and the Cauchy Riemann equations. Various forms of flow including uniform flow, source and sink flow, vortex flow, doublet, ideal flow over a circular cylinder, circulation and lift. Exact solutions of the viscous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Regular and singular perturbation problems. Flow over a flat plate, compressible flows, small perturbation equations, the wave equation, Riemann invariants and the linearized shock tube.
