Alternative methods of generation, demand side management, the role of power systems within the deregulated energy market. Power electronic devices. High power, variable speed DC and AC motor drives and controllers. High power inverters and switching power supplies.
Learning Outcomes
- A student successfully completing this subject will have developed a significant power system augmentation plan and have the capability to: competently use commercial software packages for loadflow and fault analysis;
- demonstrate an understanding of power electronic switching circuits and their applications to variable speed electrical machines, power supplies and inverters;
- understand the analytical techniques used for power system operation and planning purposes;
- understand the properties and behaviour of power electronic devices.
