This subject is designed build on, and extend, the skills that were the focus of ED5863 Foundations of Counselling Practice. Based on the Egan model of Problem Management students will continue in their counselling skill development as they explore and practice the more advanced skills of challenging, goal setting, planning for change and termination of counselling relationships.
Learning Outcomes
- To develop skills in working with reluctant and resistant clients;
- To develop and demonstrate the advanced counselling skills of challenging, goal setting, strategy development and termination of a counselling relationship;
- To demonstrate knowledge of the counsellors ethical responsibilities in counselling relationships.

- The ability to think critically, to analyse and evaluate claims, evidence and arguments, and to reason and deploy evidence clearly and logically;
- The ability to reflect on and evaluate learning, and to learn independently in a self directed manner.
