This subject has been designed to equip pre-service teachers with the necessary knowledge and competencies to teach their major (to year 12) and minor (to year 10) curriculum areas. Minor teaching areas are organised as much as possible, according to Key Learning Areas whereas major teaching areas are organised by discipline. The minor teaching areas consist of: English, Social Science, Second Language (available only via cross institutional study through Murdoch University), Science, Health and Physical Education, Visual Arts (available even years only), Mathematics, Drama, Music (available even years only) and Information Technology. Students will select three strands within the subject, either as two minors and one major or one minor and two majors (e.g., general science minor and biology and chemistry major). Research related to learning and teaching will be emphasised with opportunities for students to engage in and reflect upon these experiences provided.

• explore ways of organising the learning environment to ensure effective learning and teaching;
