This subject examines the theory and practice of classroom and student management. It is designed to provide insights into the classroom environment, key management skills to successfully manage complexities of the classroom and a variety of approaches that can both prevent and respond to disruptive behaviour. It refers to a number of foundation models as well as other ideas from the field that deal with difficult students and building resilience in students. The subject will also value and utilise the knowledge and experience of participants. Structured pre-reading is required before the block mode begins.
Learning Outcomes
- describe a range of practical strategies that can be employed in a well-managed classroom;
- describe and evaluate the principles underpinning major classroom management models;
- develop a conceptual framework that draws upon the major theoretical approaches that is also consistent with the participants personal values and beliefs;
- relate the suitability of classroom strategies to participants knowledge of current classroom practice and behaviour.
