Available only to students who have successfully completed ED3094, ED3194, ED3216 art education core studies or equivalent. (BEd Professional Development students exempt.)
This subject aims to further sensitise students to the visual arts as educationally essential. It will highlight through a critical approach, aspects of creativity, art making, displaying and appraising. It will align art with the visual strand of English literacy. Preparation for effective art teaching and learning in 1-10 settings will be a focus.
Learning Outcomes
- complete a short course in drawing as a basis for discussion and pedagogy;
- examine theories about drawing development and challenges to them;
- participate in a collaborative/community arts project;
- review historical influences on past and current principles and practices in Australian art education;
- strengthen their own philosophy of art education;
- study art curriculum resource documents;
- workshop a variety of art concepts, media and techniques and consider appropriate management/safety within school settings.
