Available to BEd (Secondary), Graduate BEd (Secondary), BMus-BEd and level 3 BMus students. Also available as an elective subject to BEd students with lecturer approval.
The subject comprises three strands: a critical study of selected music education philosophies, theories and methodologies of the 20th and 21st centuries and issues related to their implementation; a series of workshops dealing with music education pedagogic tools; and a study of the QSA Arts syllabus for Years 1-10, associated music planning and assessment.
Learning Outcomes
- develop skills in music assessment and its communication;
- develop skills in the planning, implementation and management of classroom music;
- understand and critically reflect on philosophies, theories, methodologies and issues related to music education in the compulsory years of schooling, particularly secondary school;
- understand the underlying assumptions and critically reflect on the structure and approaches associated with the Queensland music curricula;
- develop fluency in the pedagogic tools associated with the music strand of the Arts curriculum.
