This subject introduces students to a study of the history of the visual and performing arts and their relationships with developments in Western societies and cultures. Focussing on art, music, and theatre in particular, with reference to social conditions and developments of various eras, students gain both a historical perspective and a sound basis upon which to evaluate and reflect upon current times and current practices in the creative and performing arts.
Learning Outcomes
- develop an appreciation of the relationships between the creative and performing arts and the social conditions and developments of various eras;
- provide an insight into the interdependencies between society, philosophy and the arts;
- develop the student's abilities in discussing, analysing and evaluating a range of issues relevant to movements and developments in the creative and performing arts;
- provide a broad overview of the history of the creative and performing arts in Western culture.

Rolls are kept & work submitted by students with attendance of less then 80% won't be eligible for assessment unless prior approval has been obtained in writing from the lecturer. In order to pass this subject you must: Obtain an overall mark of 50% or more; Achieve a mark of at least 40% over all invigilated assessment items & Attempt each assessment item |
