Available to students enrolled in the School of Tropical Biology with grades of Distinction or higher in relevant level 2 or 3 subjects and conditional on the availability of appropriate supervisory staff and the approval of the Course Co-ordinator.
Advanced study in a selected area of biology, with a supervised research project based on data collection and/or directed reading in the literature. Projects may involve plants or animals, systems ranging from reefs to forests and wetlands, and themes including behaviour to genetics, and ecology to physiology. Topics will amplify studies in biology and will reflect research interests of supervising staff.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate the link between biological theory, empirical testing of theory and objective assessment of theory and tests;
- practical experience in some or all of the handling of animals or plant material, in logistics associated with empirical investigation, in the analysis and interpretation of data, in objective assessment of scientific literature and in the preparation of scientific reports.
