Available only to students enrolled in the Master of Astronomy.
This subject is the start of the research project/thesis in the Master of Astronomy degree. This is an original research project and is the second of the two research subjects in the Masters program. Topics will be in observational astronomy and astrophysics, astronomy education or quantitative astronomy history. It is expected that students will use primary research data and that the presented material will be in a form suited for their thesis and/or publication.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will learn the vocabulary of science and the thought processes of scientists;
- Students will be introduced to advanced measurement techniques;
- Students will be introduced to the way astronomical data is handled;
- Students will be introducted to the way in which the Universe is studied at an advanced level;
- Students will learn high level computing, software and instrumentation skills.
