This two-part subject provides, firstly, an introduction to the history and conduct of archaeological research and, secondly, an overview of the development of human societies. The topics covered include: the evolution of humans in Africa and elsewhere; early human societies in Europe; explorations of gatherer-hunter, farming and urban societies in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
