This subject will introduce the student to aquaculture in tropical Australia and other tropical regions of the World. It will provide information about the status and methods of production of the major species cultured in this region and about the trends and opportunities for new species culture.
Learning Outcomes
- To provide student with a general understanding of aquaculture in the tropics;
- To give a comparative knowledge of the techniques used for culture various aquatic species in tropical regions;
- Describe trends and opportunities for aquaculture of new species in tropical Ausralia;
- To enable students to make an informed evaluation of potential and opportunity of aquaculture in the tropics;
- To introduce students to general biology, methods of production, status and constraints of the major aquatic species, such as penaeid prawns, redclaw crayfish, mudcrabs, pearl oysters and barramundi, cultured in tropical Australia and tropical regions overseas.
