BACHELOR DEGREES IN LAW
1. In addition to the Faculty Award Requirements candidates for Awards of the faculty must comply with the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards listed in this Handbook.
2. In exceptional circumstances and notwithstanding anything contained in the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards and the Degree or Diploma Award Requirements, the faculty may in any case in which it may deem it appropriate to do so, dispense with or amend any conditions of or prescription of these Requirements.
3. The faculty will publish annually a list of subjects available to candidates. The list appears as Table VI in the Master Schedule of Subjects.
4.1 Candidates for Awards of the faculty may apply to obtain credit for previous tertiary study as detailed in the Faculty Policy Statement on credit transfer and associated guidelines.
4.2 Unless the faculty otherwise determines, credit gained for any subject shall be cancelled eleven years after the date of the examination upon which the credit is based if by then the candidate has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.
DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES IN BUSINESS, COMMERCE, ECONOMICS, MANAGEMENT AND TOURISM
1. APPLICATION OF THE REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the Faculty Award Requirements candidates for Awards must comply with the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards listed in this handbook.
2. In exceptional circumstances the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, with the approval of the relevant Head of School, may dispense with or amend any requirements or prescription of the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards, Faculty Award Requirements and Degree, Diploma or Certificate Award Requirements.
3. ENROLMENT IN AWARDS
A person who holds an Award listed in General Requirement 1.1 may not be a candidate for that Award in the same discipline.
4. CREDIT
Candidates for Awards of the faculty may apply to obtain credit for previous tertiary study as detailed in the Faculty Policy Statement on credit transfer and associated guidelines.
5. The faculty will publish annually a list of subjects available to candidates. The list appears as Table II in the Master Schedule of Subjects.
6. In exceptional circumstances the Pro-Vice-Chancellor with the approval of the relevant Head of the School may permit a candidate to graduate with fewer than the stipulated units of study for an Award offered in the faculty.
HONOURS DEGREES IN BUSINESS AND COMMERCE
(Discipline areas: Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tourism, Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management)
1.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for a degree with Honours shall, in the case of Commerce or Business:
-
complete the requirements of the pass degree, or an equivalent degree from another university;
-
include in the degree course the appropriate pass degree subjects, as set out in the program of study for each specific pass degree and described in Table II of the Master Schedule of Subjects, or equivalent subjects from another university;
-
include in the degree course honours subjects specified in the specific Honours programs.
2.1 ENROLMENT
An application by a student to enrol for an Honours degree must be approved by the Head of School. Normally, a student will not be permitted to enrol for an Honours degree unless a minimum average grade of credit has been obtained in the pass degree subjects relevant to the field in which Honours is to be taken.
2.2 In the case of Honours programs in Commerce or Business a graduate who has been awarded an appropriate pass degree within the faculty may apply to enrol for an Honours degree provided the pass degree was awarded not more than two academic years prior to the year in which enrolment in an Honours degree is sought. Such a candidate shall comply with the requirements of the pass degree and shall complete such additional work (including pass degree subjects) as the Head of the appropriate program may prescribe.
3. THESIS
The subject of any thesis shall be approved by the relevant Head of program and the thesis shall usually be presented before 30 November in the candidate‘s final year of study, unless otherwise determined by the Head of School.
4.1 DEGREE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS THE HONOURS PROGRAM IN COMMERCE
A candidate for the degree shall:

4.1.1 complete the specified program of study for the Pass degree to obtain a minimum of 72 units; and
-
4.1.2 obtain a minimum of 24 units of subjects specified in the program of study for the Honours degree.
4.2 The degree with Honours may be taken in the fields of Accounting, Finance or Economics.
5.1 THE HONOURS PROGRAMS IN BUSINESS SPECIALISING IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, MANAGEMENT, MARKETING, OR TOURISM
A candidate for the degree shall:

5.1.1 complete the specified program of study for the Pass degree to obtain a minimum of 72 units; and
-
5.1.2 obtain a minimum of 24 units of subjects specified in the program of study for the Honours degree.
6. PROGRAMS OF STUDY
Programs of study for these degrees are available from the School of Business.
DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES IN THE CREATIVE ARTS
1.1 APPLICATION OF REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the Faculty Award Requirements candidates must comply with the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards listed in this Student Handbook and specific degree or certificate Award Requirements.
1.2 In exceptional circumstances the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, where appropriate in consultation with the relevant Head of School, may dispense with or amend any requirements of or prescription by the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards, Faculty Award Requirements and specific degree, diploma or certificate Award Requirements. Any major dispensation of the requirements should be reported to the faculty.
1.3 The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, where appropriate in consultation with the appropriate Head of School, may permit a candidate to graduate with fewer than the stipulated units of study for an Award offered in the faculty.
2. ENROLMENT IN AWARDS
A person who holds an award listed in General Requirements 1.1 and 1.2 may not be a candidate for that award in the same discipline.
3. COHERENCE OF DEGREE STRUCTURE
The faculty must be satisfied that the completed Award constitutes a coherent whole.
4. SAVING CLAUSE
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in these Requirements, the faculty may in any case in which it may deem it appropriate to do so, dispense with or suspend any condition of or prescription by these Requirements. Any such action by the faculty shall be recorded for the purposes of an annual review.

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS
1.1 REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF THE COURSE
A candidate for the pass degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 72 units.
1.2 A candidate must complete at least one major offered within the School of Business.
1.3 Where a student is unable to complete a major due to contractual arrangements or the unavailability of a specified subject/s the Pro-Vice-Chancellor may permit the student to enrol in and graduate with the degree without a major. In this instance the student must have completed all core subjects and not fewer than 12 units of level 2 subjects and not fewer than 12 units of level 3 subjects from within the School of Business.
2. SUBJECTS
Subjects as outlined in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors will be required for satisfactory completion of the degree.
3.1 MAJORS
To complete a major students must successfully undertake an appropriate program of study as defined in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors for Bachelor of Business.
3.2 The major(s) are to be included on the testamur.
4.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is three years full-time study or six years part-time.
4.2 The normal maximum time for completion is six years full-time study or 12 years part-time study.
5. SPECIAL NOTES/REQUIREMENTS
In selecting the subjects for enrolment in any year the candidate shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
6.1 CREDIT FOR PRIOR STUDY
Candidates for the award of the Bachelor of Business may apply to obtain credit for previous tertiary study upon conditions determined by the faculty. Such credit will be granted in terms of the faculty's “Rules for Credit to the Bachelor Degrees” and any associated guidelines.
6.2 Credit for previous study granted towards the Bachelor of Business may only be granted for study undertaken in the previous 10 years.
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS — BACHELOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
1. AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for the pass degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 96 units.
2. SUBJECTS
Subjects as outlined in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors will normally be required for satisfactory completion of the degree; any variations from the normal require approval of the relevant Associate Dean/Faculty Registrar.
3.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is four years full-time study or eight years part-time.
3.2 The normal maximum time for completion is eight years full-time study or 12 years part-time study.
4.1 SPECIAL NOTES/REQUIREMENTS
In selecting subjects for enrolment in any year on-campus candidates shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
4.2 Business subjects comprise all subjects in Business, Commerce, Economics, Management and Tourism. Information Technology subjects comprise all subjects in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Business Information Systems and Mathematics.
4.3 The distribution of the units shall meet the minimal requirements set out in the Schedule in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
5.1 CREDIT FOR PRIOR STUDY
Candidates for the award of the Bachelor of Business - Bachelor of Information Technology may apply for credit for previous tertiary study upon conditions determined by each faculty. Such credit will be granted in terms of each faculty's “Rules for Credit to the Bachelor Degrees” and any associated guidelines.
5.2 Credit for prior study granted towards the Bachelor of Business - Bachelor of Information Technology may only be granted for study undertaken in the previous 10 years.
6. ADMINISTRATION OF THE JOINT DEGREE
The joint degree shall be administered by the Pro-Vice-Chancellors of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts and the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Information Technology.
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS — BACHELOR OF JOURNALISM
1. AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for the pass degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 96 units.
2. SUBJECTS
Subjects as outlined in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors will be required for satisfactory completion of the degree.
3.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is four years full-time study or eight years part-time.
3.2 The normal maximum time for completion is eight years full-time study or 12 years part-time study.
4.1 SPECIAL NOTES/REQUIREMENTS
In selecting subjects for enrolment in any year the candidate shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
4.2 A candidate who cannot take one of the compulsory subjects, or for whom a special case can be made, may be permitted to take an extra elective in place of one compulsory subject.
4.3 Students are advised to limit non-progressing level 1 subjects to a maximum of 3 units per teaching period.
5.1 CREDIT FOR PRIOR STUDY
Candidates for the award of the Bachelor of Business - Bachelor of Journalism may apply for credit for previous tertiary study upon conditions determined by each faculty. Such credit will be granted in terms of each faculty's “Rules for Credit to the Bachelor Degrees” and any associated guidelines.
5.2 Credit for prior study granted towards the Bachelor of Business - Bachelor of Journalism may only be granted for study undertaken in the previous 10 years.
6. ADMINISTRATION OF THE JOINT DEGREE
The joint degree shall be administered by the Pro-Vice-Chancellors of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts and the Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences.

1.1 AWARD REQUIREMENTS
Honours in the joint degree may be completed as:
BBus(Hons)-LLB(Hons); or BBus(Hons)-LLB; or BBus-LLB(Hons) depending on the requirements of individual candidates.
1.2 A candidate for the Honours degree shall normally pursue studies as follows:

BBus(Hons)-LLB(Hons) — six years to obtain 144 units;

BBus(Hons)-LLB — six years to obtain 144 units;
-
BBus-LLB(Hons) — five years to obtain 120 units.
1.3 Candidates undertaking honours shall complete the requirements of the joint pass degree followed by the requirements of the normal honours year in either or both components of the joint degree depending on the degree in which the candidate enrols.
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS — BACHELOR OF PSYCHOLOGY
1. AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for the pass degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 96 units.
2. SUBJECTS
Subjects as outlined in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors will be required for satisfactory completion of the degree.
3.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is four years full-time study.
3.2 The normal maximum time for completion is seven years full-time study.
3.3 Part-time candidates, or those who are unable to complete the course of study within seven years, shall consult with the relevant Heads of School to determine the time within which the requirements for the degree must be completed.

6. ADMINISTRATION OF THE JOINT DEGREE

The completion time for this course, if undetaken in the normal full-time study load of 24 units in a year, is 5.5 years , or 10 years if undertaken part-time. However, students wishing to complete the course in five years may undertake a study load in excess of the normal full-time study load of 24 units in a year, with the appoval of the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

Persons wishing to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Communication Design shall be required to demonstrate at an interview and/or audition suitability for the course and to provide a portfolio, relevant work and/or undertake specified tasks as specified by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre.
1.2 A person will be eligible to enrol if offered a place in the course by the University after successfully completing the selection procedures established by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre as approved from time to time by the faculty.
1.3 Quota restrictions on the number of places available may apply from time to time as determined by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre.

1. ENTRY TO HONOURS DEGREE COURSE
A person who has qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Communication Design (the pass degree) may enrol for the Honours degree in either Research or Practice if that person has:

1.1 for Research, obtained in the pass degree the grade of Distinction or better in a research-based and practice-based communication design subject specified by the Head of the College; or

1.2 for Practice, obtained in the pass degree the grade of Distinction or better in a practice-based communication design subject and the grade of Credit or better in a research-based communication design subject specified by the Head of the College; and

1.3 has obtained the approval of the Head of the College.
2. A person who holds a degree of this or another University deemed by the faculty to be equivalent to the degree of Bachelor of Communication Design may be permitted to enrol for the Honours degree where the Head of the College is satisfied that the degree justifies candidature and that the person has met the equivalent of the requirements specified in 1.1 or 1.2 above.

2.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is three years full-time study or six years part-time for those students with the relevant TAFE diploma.
2.2 The normal minimum time for completion of the degree for students currently enrolled in the relevant TAFE diploma is four years full-time or eight years part-time study.

1.2 Candidates enrolling in Law who have completed a bachelor degree at this or another University in any other field of study (graduate candidates) shall follow a course of study as specified under the heading Graduate Entry Program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors, to obtain a minimum of 72 units. The time for completion of the degree is three years of full-time study.
2.1 LIMITATION OF ENROLMENT

To qualify for the degree a candidate must have completed subjects of a minimum total value of 96 units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the degree is four years of full-time study.
2. CONSTITUTION OF THE DEGREE
The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Bachelor of Music with Honours shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
3.1 ENTRY TO HONOURS DEGREE COURSE
A candidate enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Music may apply to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Music with Honours in either:

3.1.1 research, if that person has obtained at least a distinction in a research-based music subject and a distinction in a practice-based music subjects as specified by the Head of College;

3.1.2 practice, if that person has obtained at least a distinction in a practice-based music subject and a credit in a research-based music subject as specified by the Head of College.
3.2 The faculty may permit entry to the Honours degree by a person who holds the Bachelor of Music degree of this or another University, or who holds an equivalent degree, where it is satisfied that the degree justifies candidature for Honours. Candidates entering after graduation shall complete such conditions of Requirement 2 as the Head of College may specify.
3.3 The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the majors in Music with Honours shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
4. RESUBMISSION FOR FINAL HONOURS
A candidate shall not be permitted to present more than once for the final examination in the same honours discipline, but may be permitted by the examiners to resubmit the honours thesis or comparable prescribed work.
5. AWARD OF THE DEGREE
In the award of Honours, consideration shall be given to the candidate's record throughout the course.
BACHELOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Note: The Bachelor of Photography has been disestablished from 2006. No new enrolments will be accepted. Students currently enrolled may continue their studies in the award.
1.1 ADMISSION/ENTRY TO THE COURSE
Persons wishing to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Photography shall be required to demonstrate at an interview and/or audition suitability for the course and to provide a portfolio, relevant work and/or undertake specified tasks as specified by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre.
1.2 A person will be eligible to enrol if offered a place in the course by the University after successfully completing the selection procedures established by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre as approved from time to time by the faculty.
1.3 Quota restrictions on the number of places available may apply from time to time as determined by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre.
2. AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for the pass degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 72 units. This shall include the specified core subjects and elective subjects.
3. SUBJECTS
Subjects as outlined in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors will be required for satisfactory completion of the degree.
4.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is three years full-time study or six years part-time.
4.2 The normal maximum time for completion is six years full-time study.
5. SPECIAL NOTES/REQUIREMENTS
In selecting the subjects for which a candidate seeks to enrol in any year the candidate shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
6.1 PASS CONCEDED
The grade of Pass Conceded may be awarded at the examiners meeting. This grade may also be awarded by the faculty following consideration of the student's overall result for the year.
6.2 A candidate who is granted the grade of Pass Conceded in a subject shall, for the purposes of Requirement 2, be deemed to have passed the subject and shall be credited with the appropriate units but may not enrol for a more advanced subject in any discipline requiring the first as a prerequisite except with the approval of the relevant Associate Dean/Faculty Registrar.
6.3 The number of units that may be credited at Pass Conceded level shall not exceed 12 for the Bachelor of Photography.
6.4 A candidate awarded the grade of Pass Conceded may on publication of the examination results apply to the relevant Head of School for permission to attempt to convert that grade to a Pass grade by undertaking relevant assessment tasks.

A person who has qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Photography (the pass degree) may enrol for the Honours degree in either Research or Practice if that person has:

1.1 for Research, obtained in the pass degree the grade of Distinction or better in a research-based and practice-based photography subject specified by the Head of the College; or

1.2 for Practice, obtained in the pass degree the grade of Distinction or better in a practice-based photography subject and the grade of Credit or better in a research-based photography subject specified by the Head of the College; and
-
1.3 has obtained the approval of the Head of the College.
2. A person who holds a degree of this or another University deemed by the faculty to be equivalent to the degree of Bachelor of Photography may be permitted to enrol for the Honours degree where the Head of the College is satisfied that the degree justifies candidature and that the person has met the equivalent of the requirements specified in 1.1 or 1.2 above.
3. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is one year of full-time study or two years of part-time study. The maximum period is two years of full-time study and four years of part-time study.
4. The program for either Research or Practice shall total 24 units and is shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
5. EXAMINATION
Except with the approval of the faculty a candidate shall not be permitted to present more than once for the final examination.

The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the selected major in Theatre with Honours shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
3.1 ENTRY TO HONOURS DEGREE COURSE
A person enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Theatre may be invited by the Head of the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Theatre with Honours in either:

3.1.1 research, if that person has obtained at least a distinction in both a research-based and a practice-based theatre subject as specified by the Head of College;
-
3.1.2 practice, if that person has obtained at least a distinction in a practice-based theatre subject and a credit in a research-based theatre subject as specified by the Head of College.
3.2 A person who holds or is eligible to hold the degree of Bachelor of Theatre of this or another University, or who holds an equivalent degree, may be permitted to enrol in the Honours course where the Head of the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre is satisfied that the degree justifies candidature for Honours. College requirements include a provision that candidates entering after graduation shall complete such requirements as in 2 above, as the Head of the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre may specify.
4. RESUBMISSION FOR FINAL HONOURS
A candidate shall not be permitted to present more than once for the final examination in the same Honours discipline, but may be permitted by the examiners to re-submit the Honours thesis or comparable prescribed work.

1.1 AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for the pass degree shall pursue studies to obtain normally a minimum of 72 units. The requirements of the degree are normally completed in three years of full-time study.
1.2 The 72 units shall be obtained in accordance with the requirements set out in the specified program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
BACHELOR OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT WITH HONOURS
1. ADMINISTRATION OF THE DEGREE
The degree shall be administered by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts.
2. AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for a Bachelor of Tourism Management with Honours shall:

2.1 complete the requirements of the pass degree, or an equivalent degree from another university;
-
2.2 include in the degree course the appropriate pass degree subjects, as set out in the program of study or equivalent subjects from another university;
-
2.3 include in the degree course 24 units of specified Honours subjects.
3.1 ENROLMENT
An application by a student to enrol for an Honours degree must be approved by the Head of School. Normally, a student will not be permitted to enrol for an Honours degree unless a minimum average grade of credit has been obtained in the pass degree subjects relevant to the field in which Honours are to be taken.
3.2 In the case of this Honours program, a graduate who has been awarded an appropriate pass degree within the faculty may apply to enrol for an Honours degree provided the pass degree was awarded not more than two academic years prior to the year in which enrolment in an Honours degree is sought. Such a candidate shall comply with the Requirements of the pass degree and shall complete such additional work (including pass degree subjects) as the Head of the appropriate program may prescribe.
4. THESIS
The subject of any thesis shall be approved by the Head of School and the thesis shall usually be presented before 30 November in the candidate's final year of study, unless otherwise determined by the Head of School.

A candidate enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts may be invited by the Head of the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours (Research) if that candidate has obtained a minimum of 72 units by successful completion of the level 1, level 2 and level 3 subjects prescribed in the program, provided that the grade of at least distinction has been obtained in the following level 3 subjects of Visual Arts Practice and Art History and Theory; and that the grade of at least credit has been obtained in the level 3 subject of Drawing.
3.2 A candidate enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts may be invited by the Head of the College to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours (Professional Practice) if that candidate has obtained a minimum of 72 units by successful completion of the level 1, level 2 and level 3 subjects prescribed in the program, provided that the grade of at least distinction has been obtained in the following level 3 subject of Visual Arts Practice and that the grade of at least credit has been obtained in the level 3 subjects of Drawing and Art History and Theory.
3.3 A person who holds the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts of this or another University, or who holds an equivalent qualification, may be permitted to enrol in the Honours course where the Head of the College is satisfied that the qualification justifies candidature in one of the honours specialisations currently offered by Visual Arts. Requirements include a provision that candidates entering after graduation shall complete such specifications of Requirement 2 of the Bachelor of Visual Arts as the Head of College may specify.

Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Business who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.
CERTIFICATE OF BUSINESS LAW
1. ADMINISTRATION OF THE COURSE
The Certificate of Business Law may be undertaken in the School of Law and is administered by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts.
2. REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATURE
A person may enrol for the Certificate of Business Law if that person:

2.1 would qualify for entry into the Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Laws at this University;

2.2 has other qualifications and/or experience recognised by the faculty as equivalent to Requirement 2.1.
3. Notwithstanding Requirement 2 above, the faculty, on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Law, may admit a person to candidature for the Certificate of Business Law if it is satisfied that that person has demonstrated an ability to complete the requirements of the award.
4.1 CONSTITUTION OF THE COURSE
A candidate for the Certificate of Business Law shall follow an approved course of study to obtain a minimum of six units.
4.2 An approved course of study shall normally comprise a minimum of two subjects selected from the program shown in Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
4.3 In appropriate circumstances, the Head of the School of Law may approve the selection of other subjects (in particular, subjects drawn from Table VI in the Master Schedule of Subjects).
4.4 To complete any subject a candidate shall fulfil the requirements of the relevant School for that subject.
5. PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE
The normal time for completion of the award is one teaching period of full-time study (or part-time equivalent).
6. CREDIT FOR OTHER STUDIES
Credit shall not be granted for prior studies.
CERTIFICATE OF DESKTOP PUBLISHING
1. To qualify for the award a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is two teaching periods of part-time study.
2. The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Desktop Publishing shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
3. Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Desktop Publishing who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.
CERTIFICATE OF ECOTOURISM
1. AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for the award shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of six units.

The normal time for completion of the award is two teaching periods of part-time study.

CERTIFICATE OF MUSIC PRACTICE
1. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COMPLETION OF THE COURSE
To qualify for the award a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is two teaching periods of part-time study.
2. CONSTITUTION OF THE COURSE
The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Music Practice shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
3. EXIT STATUS
Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Music Practice who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.
CERTIFICATE OF NATIVE TITLE STUDIES
1. ADMINISTRATION OF THE COURSE
The Certificate of Native Title Studies may be undertaken in the School of Law and is administered by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts.
2. REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATURE
A person may enrol for the Certificate of Native Title Studies if that person:

2.1 would qualify for entry into a Bachelors course at this University;

2.2 has other qualifications and/or experience recognised by the faculty as equivalent to Requirement 2.1.
3. Notwithstanding Requirement 2 above, the faculty, on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Law, may admit a person to candidature for the Certificate of Native Title Studies if it is satisfied that that person has demonstrated an ability to satisfactorily complete the requirements of the award.
4.1 CONSTITUTION OF THE COURSE
A candidate for the Certificate of Native Title Studies shall follow an approved course of study to obtain a minimum of six units.
4.2 An approved course of study shall normally comprise a minimum of two subjects selected from the program shown in Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
4.3 In appropriate circumstances, the Head of the School of Law may approve the selection of other subjects - particularly from Tables Ia and VI in the Master Schedule of Subjects.
4.4 To complete any subject a candidate shall fulfil the requirements of the relevant School for that subject.
5. PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE
The normal time for completion of the award is one teaching period of full-time study (or part-time equivalent).
6. CREDIT FOR OTHER STUDIES
Credit shall not be granted for prior studies.
CERTIFICATE OF PHOTOGRAPHY
1. REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF THE COURSE
A person who wishes to enrol for the Certificate of Photography shall be required to meet the admission requirements as specified by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre from time to time.
2. To qualify for the award a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these requirements. The normal time for completion of the certificate is two teaching periods part-time. The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Photography shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
3. Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Photography who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the university will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.
CERTIFICATE OF PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT
Note: The Certificate of Piano Accompaniment has been disestablished from 2006. No new enrolments will be accepted.
1. REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF THE COURSE
A person who wishes to enrol for the Certificate of Piano Accompaniment must have successfully completed Performing Music 1 MU1401 or equivalent; or provide through audition or similar process, evidence of a commensurate level of keyboard skills..
2. To qualify for the award, a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is two years of part-time study. The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Piano Accompaniment shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
3. Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Piano Accompaniment who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.
CERTIFICATE OF STUDIO MUSIC TEACHING
Note: The Certificate of Studio Music Teaching has been disestablished from 2006. No new enrolments will be accepted..

To qualify for the award a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is two teaching periods of part-time study.
2. CONSTITUTION OF THE COURSE
The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Theatre Skills shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
3. EXIT STATUS
Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Theatre Skills who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.
CERTIFICATE OF TOURISM

CERTIFICATE OF UNDERWATER IMAGING
Note: The Certificate of Underwater Imaging has been disestablished from 2006. No new enrolments will be accepted.
1. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Persons who wish to enrol for the Certificate of Underwater Imaging shall be required to meet the following admission requirements:

1.1 possession of at least Open Water diving certification and a minimum of 15 logged hours of diving experience;

1.2 possession of a current AS2299 Dive Medical Certificate or equivalent;
-
1.3 acceptance onto the JCU Dive Register;
-
1.4 completion and submission of the appropriate application form.
2. CONSTITUTION OF THE COURSE
To qualify for an award, a candidate must normally have satisfactorily completed two of the subjects in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is oneteaching period part-time.
The program of study in some subjects is normally covered in two full-time blocks of seventeen days duration while the program of study in others is normally covered over the course of a normal study period.
The block mode studies are normally offered outside of normal study period teaching weeks to enable enrolment by students from all faculties and, subject to adequate enrolments, the course may be offered more than once per calendar year.
3. EXIT STATUS
Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Underwater Imaging who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.

(2) to provide access to subjects that will allow candidates to seek accreditation to appropriate professional organisations. Students must complete at least 6 units of business subjects;

(3) to provide access to subjects required by individuals in businesses and local community groups to fulfil their personal academic requirements. Students must complete at least 6 units of business subjects.
CERTIFICATE OF BUSINESS LAW
Townsville, CairnsThe Certificate of Business Law will allow students to undertake study of selected aspects of Business Law (equivalent to the Commercial Law component of a BBus or BCom degree) without enrolling in, or intending to complete a full Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Commerce degree and obtain an appropriate exit award. It will also provide an enrolment option for students - both domestic and international seeking only to enrol in a small number of more specialised business law subjects - mainly for professional accounting accreditation purposes.
