The subject will draw on socio-environmentalism as a framework for critiquing community work practice. It will consider the evolution of the relationship between people and nature, explore the various explanations for these and the current socio-environmental problems faced by the community. Students will then examine the implications of such an approach for working in the field of social development.

- to develop a broad understanding of the relationship between people and nature;
- to develop a critical understanding of a socio-environmental approach to community work.
