Students wishing to enrol must meet the following requirements: 1. possession of at least Open Water diving certification and a minimum of 15 logged hours of diving experience; 2. possession of a current AS2299 Dive Medical Certificate or equivalent; 3. acceptance onto the JCU Dive Register 4. completion and submission of the appropriate application form.
This course combines a comprehensive coverage of the use of digital video equipment, materials and techniques of underwater videography with a thorough grounding in applicable workplace health and safety and environmental conservation concerns and procedures. Students will also be instructed in the proper care and maintenance of the equipment used and will acquire basic competency in the editing of video footage using Macintosh computer equipment. Extensive fieldwork diving diving on the Great Barrier Reef near Cairns and Port Douglas is a compulsory component of this course but all costs of tuition, accommodation, meals, Field Trips, equipment and materials are incorporated within the Short Course Fees.
Learning Outcomes
- control the composition and colout/tone of images through correct use of a variety of equipment and materials in underwater videography; gain a thorough understanding of sequence based story telling in the field of underwater videography;
- develop competancy in producing video footage underwater that is relevant to the student's specific discipline/career/interest area;
- gain a sound understanding of the basic theory and practice of Underwater Videography using digital camera and editing equipment; choose and effectively utilise equipment and materials appropriate for underwater videography;
- gain a sound understanding of, and practical competance in, the proper use, care and maintenance of underwater videographic equipment; gain a thorough understanding of the nature and manipulation of both natural and artificial light in underwater videography;
- gain a thorough understanding of the application of workplace health and safety concerns in underwater videography.
