Students wishing to enrol must meet the following requirements: 1. possession of at least Open Water diving certification and a minimum of 15 logged hours of diving experience; 2. possession of a current AS2299 Dive Medical Certificate or equivalent; 3. acceptance onto the JCU Dive Register; 4. completion and submission of the appropriate applicationm form
This course provides students with an introduction to the basic theory and techniques of photography followed by a detailed introduction to the field of underwater still photography using scuba equipment and both digital and conventional camera equipment. It combines a comprehensive coverage of the use of the equipment, materials and techniques of underwater photography with a thorough grounding in applicable workplace health and safety concerns and procedures. Students will also be instructed in the proper care and maintenance of the equipment used. Extensive fieldwork diving on the Great Barrier Reef near Cairns and Port Douglas is a compulsory component of this course but all costs of tuition, accommodation, meals, Field Trips, equipment and materials are incorporated within the Short Course Fees
Learning Outcomes
- control the composition and colour/tone of images through correct use of a variety of equipment and materilas in still photography;
- develop competancy in producing still images underwater that are relevant to the student's specific discipline/career/interest area;
- gain a sound understanding of the basic theory and practice of Underwater Photography using both film and digital camera equipment; choose and effectively utilise equipment and materials appropriate for underwater still photography;
- gain a sound understanding of, and practical competance in, the proper use, care and maintenance of underwater photographic equipment; gain a sound understanding of the nature and manipulation of both natural and artificial light in underwater photography;
- gain a thorough understanding of the application of workplace health and safety concerns in underwater photography.
