Available to all students who possess at least Open Water diving certification; minimum 15 hours logged diving time; current AS2299 Dive Medical Certificate or equivalent and inclusion on the JCU Dive Register. All students wishing to enrol must complete and submit the appropriate application form to the subject coordinator.
This subject combines a comprehensive coverage of the use of digital video equiment, materials and techniques of underwater videography with a thorough grounding in applicable workplace health and safety and environmental conservation concerns and procedures. Students will also be instructed in the proper care and maintenance of the equipment and will acquire basic competency in the editing of video footage using Macintosh computer equipment.Extensive field work on the Great Barrier Reef near Cairns and Port Douglas is a compulsory component of this subject and significant additional costs therefore apply for field trips, loan equipment and accommodation (if away from students residential base).

Learning Outcomes
- the application of workplace health and safety and environmental conservation concerns;
- the nature and manipulation of both natural and artificial light underwater;
- the principles governing the proper use, care and maintenance of underwater digital camera equipment and computer editing equipment;
- the production of underwater video footage that is relevant to the students specific discipline/career/interest/professional area;
- sequence based storytelling as applied to underwater videography.
