This subject aims to introduce the registered nurse to professional nurse practice issues. As reflective nurse practitioners students will explore issues such as human responses to illness, ethico-legal issues in specialty nursing practice and assessing specialist nursing practice using competency standards. Students will be provided with the opportunity to apply knowledge gained to their area of specialist nursing practice.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate an understanding of and application of ethico-legal principle to the students practice;
- describe communication practices which establish and maintain collaborative and constructive relationships with clients and colleagues in the intensive care unit;
- engage in activities which enhance the students own and colleagues ongoing education and abilities as a specialist intensive care nurse;
- recognise and demonstrate the required abilities to be a reflective practitioner.
