This subject will introduce the registered nurse to advanced physiological nursing knowledge and advanced physical nursing assessment. Content includes physiological and biological concepts which inform specialist nursing practice and this will be applied to patients with complex health care needs. The subject is relevant to nurses caring for patients in specialist clinical practice settings.
Learning Outcomes
- assess patients who are critically ill and who have alteration in health status resultant from several sources that could be both physiological and psychosocial;
- have an advanced understanding of pathophysiological processes in the human body;
- have an understanding of pharmacological concepts related to treating patients who are critically ill;
- outline principles of microbiology when treating patients with complex health problems.
