Available to students enrolled in the MBBS (Hons) degree.
This subject is part of a two-year Honours course that includes the normal requirements of the parallel pass degree subject MD6001. It will therefore build on the content of MD5101 to achieve a high level of integration between the basic medical sciences and the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for clinical health care, through five eight-week rotations in various clinical health care settings. Students enrolled in the honours course will undertake a research-based task in their elective rotation (one of the five) that builds upon the preparatory work for their project in MD5101.
Learning Outcomes
- take a focused history from and conduct a focused examination on patients with a range of health problems and generate a list of health care problems that patients may have;
- determine and interpret an appropriate range of clinical investigations relevant to each patient problem and generate a management plan in response to each patient problem;
- further understand the personal and professional roles of medical practitioners;
- demonstrate high level mastery of integration of basic and clinical medical sciences;
- demonstrate a capacity to analyse the literature and apply it in a clinical context.
