Available to level 1 students enrolled in the MBBS program.
This subject will provide the foundation for the development of an understanding of the biochemical and cellular processes in the normal human body. This knowledge will form the basis for the understanding of the biochemical, molecular and cellular basis of disease to be developed in future years of the medical program.
Learning Outcomes
- to be able to express basic biochemical and cellular concepts in oral, written and poster presentations and to appreciate the importance of effective public speaking and group skills;
- to know and understand the basic structure and function of cells at a biochemical and molecular level;
- to know and understand the concept and process of homeostasis;
- to recognise the importance of the relationship between structure and function in biochemical processes;
- to understand biochemistry and its implications at the whole body level;
- to understand the flow of genetic information;
- to understand the process of cell metabolism including energy metabolism and the role of enzymes and its implications at the whole body level.
