Overview of the study of tropical marine ecology. Introduction to natural and anthropogenic processes that influence marine communities. The subject explores methods used to describe, assess and model the marine environment. Emphasis on rigorous description, monitoring, impact assessment and experimentation. Introduction to the role of ecologists in environmental management. An optional three hours of study skills lectures have been integrated into the course to improve the general skills base of students. Students will be required to attend lectures and practical classes in MB2060.
Learning Outcomes
- be proficient in the collection, handling and analysis of ecological data;
- be able to design ecological sampling programs and experiments;
- understand some of the practical applications of marine ecology;
- understand the role of ecologists in environmental management.
