The rules of Ethics and Professional Conduct of the legal profession (both Barristers and Solicitors) in Queensland.
Learning Outcomes
- understand in detail: the place and relevance of ethics in contemporary society; the structure of the legal profession in Queensland and in other Australian jurisdictions;
- understand in detail, the current legislative regulatory structure; professional duties; and ethical duties of legal practitioners in Queensland;
- understand in detail, the regulatory scheme & specific parts of the scheme, enacted in the Legal Profession Act 2004;
- appreciate the historical background to the current regulatory scheme; and ethical duties of the legal profession;
- be able to demonstrate a high level of analysis and application of this understanding, including an application of elements of the Legal Profession Act 2004 and the common law regulation of the profession, by analogy; and an application of ethical duties and accountability of legal practitioners from theoretical and practical perspectives.
