A general introduction to the ways the Japanese view themselves today, contemporary religious sects and popular culture in modern Japan. Issues covered include strains in the social fabric such as failure to adjust in school and the workplace, sports, and anime and other forms of contemporary entertainment.
Learning Outcomes
- acquire a general understanding of contemporary Japanese society;

- develop the basic skills of comparative understanding of culture.
