Available to Bachelor of Indigenous Studies students who have successfully completed this subject at level 1 and other undergraduate students who are eligible to take a level 2 subject.

Those students who do not have Internet access must contact the Subject Coordinator to acquire the relevant materials. This subject explores the skills and knowledge necessary for workers venturing into the community management and development field in an Indigenous context. It will examine some of the social determinants in relation to sustainability of community management and development. The concepts of self-determination, capacity building, participatory democracy, equality and cooperative relationships will be discussed along with the underlying assumptions developed by service providers in assessing the needs of Indigenous communities.
Learning Outcomes
- challenge and review students' own personal views and attitudes towards Indigenous people and issues;
- explore Australia's history, political, social and cultural frameworks from an Indigenous perspective;
- examine current Indigenous issues and contemporary social factors;
- critically analyse government policies and their impact on Indigenous people.
