This subject looks at the development of Black Australian writing and the way in which Black Australians have used writing to reflect their lives and consciousness. Students should therefore gain a sound knowledge and appreciation of a range of Black Australian literature and understand the importance of literature as production of counter discourses and as a mode of self-representation. There will be an overview of Indigenous Australian literature in relation to social, historical and political contexts.
