Those students who do not have Internet access must contact the Subject Coordinator to acquire the relevant materials. This subject introduces students to community management and development in an Indigenous context. It will focus on exploring the historical issues relating to Indigenous Australians and the impact those issues have on the implementation and sustainability of community management and development strategies/programs. This will include the evolvement of Deed Of Grant In Trust (DOGIT) communities, the role and functions of councils/organisations, Indigenous community dynamics and protocols. The current status of federal, state and local government roles and functions relating to community management and development will be examined.
Learning Outcomes
- analyse the historical, political, social and cultural frameworks of Indigenous communities;
- develop an understanding of the unique nature of Indigenous organisations;
- describe how community development processes are applied in Indigenous organisations;
- critically analyse of the relationships between Government/s and Indigenous peoples.
