Available to BIndgStud and other undergraduate students.
Formal academic writing skills, including appropriate use of grammar, syntax, vocabulary and correct use of referencing and bibliographic formats will be developed. Notetaking, paraphrasing and summarising skills will be followed by instruction on the expectations of various genres of academic writing including critiques, essays and research reports. Issues such as plagiarism and copyright, gendered language and Indigenous English will be discussed in relation to academic writing.
Learning Outcomes
- write research reports, essays and critiques;
- develop library and internet research skills;
- use appropriate structure, syntax, grammar and vocabulary (including gendered language) required for academic writing;
- demonstrate skills in notetaking, paraphrasing and summarising from a range of sources and for specific research purposes;
- analyse and apply the various genres and formats required for academic writing;
- use acceptable in-text referencing and bibliographic conventions.
