The "Linking Indigenousness" subjects are designed to provide students with an opportunity for direct interaction with Indigenous Australians in contemporary settings. The subject may be taught as a field trip or from the Cairns or Townsville campus. Students will be taught by the members of a specific Indigenous community, facilitated by staff of the School of Indigenous Australian Studies. This subject provides students with an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of contemporary Indigenous Australians and the issues that affect their lives. This is achieved through the use of a sociohistorical framework that enables students to gain an insight into the current positioning of Indigenous Australians in Australian society.
