Available to all students enrolled in Occupational Therapy programs. Also available to students in other programs through negotiation with the Head of the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
This subject is designed to introduce students to the competencies involved in the development of health promotion activities and programs. Students will be introduced to the principles and theories of health promotion and to the processes of health promotion program planning, design, implementation and evaluation. Cross-cultural aspects of health promotion will be introduced. A settings approach to health promotion will be discussed and students will have the opportunity to critically analyse health promotion case studies.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills in the processes of planning, implementing, evaluating and sustaining health promotion programs;
- demonstrate knowledge of the use of media strategies in health promotion;
- describe cultural considerations in health promotion;
- describe methods for process, impact and outcome evaluation of health promotion programs;
- describe the principles and elements of health promotion;
- discuss and describe individual, group and population methods in health promotion and their most appropriate application;
- select appropriate methods to use in evaluation of health promotion programs;
- select methods and strategies for health promotion programs.
