In this subject students explore selected themes in the history of societies located in the worlds tropical regions. Themes explored include the peculiarities of life-ways and culture in tropical environments, the nature of human settlement in the tropics and the experiences of social, political and cultural change.
Learning Outcomes
- to acquire an understanding of the most important developments in the history of societies in tropical regions;
- to develop skills in historical research, critical analysis and writing;
- to gain an appreciation of the historical origins and development of social institutions, culture and life-ways in the tropics.
