Available to students enrolled in the BCommunication Design degree.
The aim of this subject is to examine the transformation of society by the Industrial Revolution turning the world upside down in a process of upheaval (via technological inventions) that continues to accelerate. By displacing the arts and crafts from their social and economic roles the machine created a gulf between peoples material life and their sensory and spiritual needs. This subject traces the impact of the industrial revolution upon the visual arts and beginning of the division between concept and execution, through the effects of movements such as Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Cubism and Surrealism to the science fiction/fantasy genre and the implications of digital technology and its use as an artistic tool.
There are additional charges for this subject; please contact the School for details.
