The subject develops and extends students abilities to analyse, plan and implement language and literacy programs in the middle school and to understand and develop adolescents language practices in different subject areas. It focuses on different approaches to text analysis and on issues surrounding linguistic diversity in Australian classrooms. It provides a basis for students to engage with a range of topics including adolescent language and literacy development, teaching English as a second language to Indigenous students, techniques for teaching critical literacy practices, understanding and managing workplace literacy practices, developing specific curriculum strategies for a range of disciplines.
