The subject introduces students to the major theories of counselling and provides opportunities to develop the microskills of counselling. The students are encouraged to investigate the application of the theories and microskills in the context of a school setting.
Learning Outcomes
- awareness of the major theories of counselling, including Adlerian, behavioural, reality, transactional, rational emotive, client centred, eclectic, feminist therapy and family systems therapy;
- develop the basic microskills of counselling;
- awareness of issues of race and gender in counselling.
