The diagnostic-prescriptive approach to assessing and treating school students difficulties with learning will be critically examined. The rationale, assumptions and effectiveness of the approach and major issues associated with its use, will be explored. The approach will be compared with alternative approaches to assessing and teaching students who experience difficulty with learning.
