Tertiary teachers are expected to engage with educational technologies. This subject will provide the participants with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, skills and confidence in the use of educational technologies. In particular, the place of online learning in tertiary education will be examined with an emphasis on flexible models in a mixed mode setting. Students will study the design, development, delivery, evaluation and management of courses and subjects supported through the use of online learning in the context of their own teaching. The effective use of other ICT such as videoconferencing will also be examined.
Learning Outcomes
- to use a basic set of online learning tools currently available centrally at James Cook University;
- have a working knowledge of how the WWW operates and be able to efficiently use a variety of online learning tools;
- to critically evaluate how the WWW can be used effectively in teaching;
- to identify and examine processes and learning frameworks used in the design and development of course content for online learning;
- to develop, implement and evaluate an online approach to teaching.
