This subject aims to provide a broad introduction to learning and teaching in tertiary education. It critically analyses theories, concepts and techniques of tertiary teaching and the application of these to the participants' own teaching. Material covered includes concepts of teaching and learning, subject design, effective presentation of material to facilitate learning, effective teaching of small and large groups, assessment and course evaluation. This subject is a pre-requisite for ED5301.
Learning Outcomes
- to provide introductory knowledge of theories, models, concepts and techniques in tertiary teaching;
- to encourage critical analysis of such theories, models, concepts and techniques appropriate to the diversity of students in tertiary institutions;
- to facilitate and enable participants to explore implications of course material within their own teaching contexts;
- to encourage teaching and learning practices grounded in the scholarship of tertiary teaching.
