Available to Human Movement students in primary and secondary programs.
This subject covers general principles of coaching and human performance as established by the Australian Coaching Council. It focuses on the role and responsibility of the coach in modern society with a specific emphasis on coaching in schools. Areas for study are based on units from the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme. These units include the development of skills, techniques, and strategies specific to sport coaching and examine the practical aspects of coaching.
Learning Outcomes
- describe elements of the skills, techniques and strategies necessary for successful coaching;
- develop effective communication skills necessary for successful coaching particularly as they apply to school age children;
- develop reflective skills associated with successful coaching particularly as they apply to school age children;
- explain theories of coaching;
- explore and critically analyse coach education resources;
- understand the role of the coach.
