Available to students enrolled in Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and Graduate Bachelor of Education (Secondary). Graduate BEd students are required to take this subject with or before ED3491 if it is their first teaching area. It is recommended to be taken before ED3491 if it is their second teaching area.
Secondary Health & Physical Education Curriculum provides an introduction to HPE in the middle schooling years. This subject will introduce the 1-10 HPE syllabus and the theoretical, sociocultural and pedagogical aspects that underpin its structure and implementation.
Learning Outcomes
- be able to critically reflect on and plan for continuous improvement in the teaching of HPE;
- be able to critically reflect upon HPE as a Key Learning Area that reflects the significance of physical activity in the lives of individuals and groups in Australian society;
- be able to design engaging, effective and appropriate learning experiences for middle school HPE that promote maximum participation and are supportive of student social justice, equity and diversity;
- be able to develop an understanding of the sociocultural, philosophical and pedagogical basis of the HPE syllabus and be able to apply this to the teaching of HPE in the middle school;
- be able to understand and appreciate the contribution of the KLA to lifelong learning;
- be able to utilise inquiry based, constructivist, cooperative and independent approaches to planning and teaching.
